Planting the Gospel.
Seattle Church Planting is the church multiplication arm of The Puget Sound Metro Region (NWBC Region 1), an area comprised of urban, suburban, and rural settings. This diverse, secular, postmodern setting has more than 4 million people and over 100 major languages. The large population centers of Seattle, Tacoma, Bellevue, Everett, Bellingham and the surrounding communities are home to major industries (Boeing, Microsoft, Amazon, Starbucks, Nintendo-USA, Alaska Airlines, biotech research, fishing, tourism) and significant educational institutions (University of Washington, Seattle Pacific University, and more). Set on the Puget Sound with many lakes and rivers, and surrounded by the Olympic and Cascade mountains, the region is one the most beautiful metropolitan spaces in the world.
Spiritually, the greater Seattle area is one of incredible opportunity. While over 80% of people believe in something beyond the physical realm, only about 1/3 are a part of any organized religion. It is a pre-Christian society that is seeing encouraging growth in the number of new disciples, churches, and even networks. On any given Sunday, only 4% of the population attends an evangelical church of any kind. Less than 1% attend a Southern Baptist church. We are “planting the Gospel” to see God’s Kingdom expand through the making of new disciples…and it is.
Since 2000, the number of Region 1 churches has approximately doubled. About half of our churches are 2nd generation ethnic churches or worship in languages other than English. Seattle Church Planting provides planters and their teams with one of the most extensive support systems anywhere, including prayer support, assessment, training, focus community exegesis, partnership development, coaching, advocates, planter networks, spouse networks, family gatherings, online giving, an administrative hub, block party trailers, portable baptistries, and more.
